Dry Flaky Skin Cure

While dry flaky skin may not be physically painful, it can certainly be emotionally painful. To understand this, take the example of a case where the dryness and flakiness happens to affect the face, as it often does. Now just imagine the effects of walking around like this. Typically, no one will ask you about your skin condition. What people will do, in an attempt to 'appear polite', is to make their own conclusions about the issue - which could be anything from lack of hygiene to having a terminal skin disease to being an effect of too much stress...and anything in between. Yet whatever a person assumes becomes their reality, and they might even start spreading it around.

So why does this affect some people and not others? Dry flaky skin is mainly caused by a lack of the skin's natural oil (sebum) and the cure for it therefore lies in addressing that lack. This lack of sebum could in turn be as a result of the damage to the glands in the skin which are responsible for its production -which brings us to the first cure for dry flaky skin - which is the use of aloe Vera skin products.

The use of aloe vera skin products - and especially the cream - not only directly gives some oil to the skin but goes as far as healing the underlying tissue responsible for production of the skin's natural oil, thus dealing with the problem from its core.

Another possible cause of dry flaky skin could be lack of the nutrients from which the skin makes sebum -and this brings us to yet another possible cure for dry flaky skin, which is proper nutrition. Proper nutrition in this regard does not mean eating oily food  but rather, taking foods which contain the nutrients that the skin uses to make sebum, most notably Sulphur - a nutrient which is abundant in commonplace foods like onions and garlic. These are easy to use foods which you can embrace in place of spices in your cooking.

Use of harsh soaps and very hot bathing water is yet another possible reason you could be having dry flaky skin, and the solution to this is straightforward - opting for cooler bathing water, friendlier soaps, and possibly using Aloe Vera skin products to help heal the damage that the harsh soaps had already caused you.

As a short term remedy, you can also opt for a dry skin lotion. Using lotion is a temporary solution for dry skin relief but it won't get the tissues responsible for the production of sebum to produce the oil, but it will certainly help with the embarresment and discomfort

Acidity verses Alkalinity

While I originally started to avoid this subject like the plague, I felt the need to at a minimum address it because there are so many widely differing view points on what this actually means, what to do about it and how this really affects your overall health.

I was very happy to find that the Chief Science Officer at Univera LifeSciences, Steven Cherniske, had published a very informative article, “The Acid Alkaline Mystery Solved”, on this very subject. For any of you that have read any of Stephen Cherniske’s work, you will not be surprised to see that it comes complete with all the references that you could hope for and the straight hard facts on this very confusing subject. As a result of this finding I am not going to attempt to do the subject justice, by trying to recreate an article of equal caliber. Verses re-inventing the wheel I am going to simply hit some of the high points for those of you who would prefer the cliff notes version. For those that would like to read all of the details I will leave that to Stephen and his article, “The Acid Alkaline Mystery Solved”.

First of all what is an Acid or for that matter an Alkaline substance? These substances are measured on a pH scale with water being neutral at 7.0. With values less than 7.0 being acid and the lower the pH value the stronger the acid. As you may have guessed alkaline (or base) substances have a value greater than 7.0 up to a maximum of 14. By now you may be wondering where our bodies should fall on this scale. First of all when we speak of an acid/alkaline balance in the body we are talking about the pH balance of our blood and tissues that should remain in a fairly narrow range of about 7.4 – slightly alkaline.

The real heart of the matter here is the byproducts of the digestion of foods that we consume and absorb. The biggest contributors to the fact that ACIDOSIS is at an all time high are the facts that most Americans are consuming beef and/or poultry multiple times per day, Americans are now consuming more soft drinks than water, consumption of coffee (caffeinated & decaffeinated) and lastly the processing of many of our foods have removed all of the alkaline forming minerals. When thinking about the foods that we consume you can not take the natural state of a food as the prime indicator of how that food will interact with our bodies. As an example, most fruits when consumed will result in an alkaline ash residue once digested even though naturally they maybe very high in acid in their natural state, even oranges.

The primary acid forming foods in your diet contain the minerals, sulfur, phosphorus and iron. Typically you will find these minerals in proteins, such as meat, fish, poultry, eggs, grains, most nuts and soft drinks (due to the high phosphate levels). The minerals potassium, calcium, magnesium and sodium form alkaline reactions in the body and are found primarily in fruits and vegetables, and so these foods are classified as alkaline forming foods. As many of you are aware the consumption of alkaline-forming vegetables and fruit is at an all-time low. This has resulted in an increase of acidosis which accelerates catabolic damage and impairs our bodies anabolic repair processes. One of the best examples is the fact that it has been known for a long time that diets high in protein greatly increase the risk of osteoporosis. While there are many theories on this subject it appears that the body is simply taking from one part of the body to help support other systems that have been depleted due to the body staying in such a high state of acidosis.

In an attempt to help us make this shift in our diet Univera LifeSciences has created MetaGreens™. MetaGreens™ is extraordinary mix of land and sea vegetables, all of which are rich in alkaline minerals. I take great comfort in knowing that these greens are pesticide-free, grown on high-nutrient soil that has never been chemically fertilized. Additionally, Univera LifeSciences takes great care to ensure that the vegetables are harvested at the peak of their nutrient value and then these ingredients are processed by low-temperature dehydration to retain all the raw food goodness and manufactured in small batches to maximize freshness.

While the words “stomach acid” have a negative connotations for many of you it is because you have been brain washed over the years by the non-stop advertisements about how excess stomach acid is causing all of your discomforts. While I would be able to spend days address this issue I will pass. For those of you that want to read a very well presented explanation of why our stomach acids are in fact a good thing please read Stephen Cherniske’s article. For myself I continue to rely on Univera LifeSciences aloe Gold product to help keep my digestive track in order and functioning properly. For those of you that have not tried aloe Gold take a moment to ask anyone that have used the product and I am very certain you will hear fantastic praises about how it has helped them with numerous digestive track disorders.

I hope that you have found this latest entry to be of interest and most of informative. While I have barely scratched the surface here I hope that I have helped to clear up some of the confusion associated with the Acid Alkaline debate. For those of you that are hungry for more on this I can not recommend highly enough that you read Stephen Cherniske’s article the Acid Alkaline Mystery Solved.

How To Make Artificial Rocks - The Methods The Professionals Use!

Mixing concrete - the most important step in artificial rock making

Mixing concrete is no different than baking a cake. If you do not put the right ingredients into the mix it will not turn out properly. In fact, mixing and curing a batch of concrete is virtually identical to mixing and baking a cake. Except that the concrete bakes at room temperature!

There are many different concrete mixes and various additives and substitutions for ingredients. It is true that lightweight concrete can be created by adding vermiculite, perlite, peat moss or saw dust in place or partially in place of sand. The short answer is - yes you can do this with varying degrees of success and with more than a little trail and error. The concrete mix that is detailed below is specifically designed for two reasons:

1) Maximum strength
2) Maximum sculptability

This mix is engineered to produce a final concrete strength of 50-75 mPa. This is STRONG in fact this is VERY STRONG concrete. This will produce concrete that is far stronger than sidewalks and curbs, even stronger than swimming pool concrete and most concrete found in high rise construction.

It is important to note that you can make concrete batches of all sizes using the simple principal that the ingredients are all proportional to one another. For example the ratio of sand to cement is generally 3:1 or three parts sand to every one part cement. All other measurements in the mix will be based on the 'one part' cement that you are using. For this example the measurements are based on a standard 40kg bag of type ten portland cement being equal to one standard five gallon bucket.

respirator is a MUST as silica, concrete dust and fiberglass are dangerous to breathe!

Dry Ingredients:

-One bag type 10 portland cement
-Three buckets fine, clean washed sand
-One and 1/4 buckets un-densified silica fume
-1/4 bucket Fly Ash -Small handful of glass fibers (like a pinch of salt - not precise, but a small amount)

Wet ingredients:

-800ml of poly-plex or liquid latex (Liquid acrylic can be substituted where liquid latex is not available)
-300ml liquid water reducer
-Water**

NOTE: The liquid additives can be omitted and replaced with water with acceptable results. The water reducer and liquid latex are needed only where maximum strength and workability is essential.

**In order to make the concrete strong and workable the amount of water is critical and can change depending on a number of given criteria. For example, if the sand you are using is slightly damp you would likely need HALF the amount of water than if your sand was bone dry. If it is hot outside you may find yourself needing more water than on a cool day. Adding the correct amount of water takes practice.

Mixing the concrete ingredients is the most important stage

You can mix concrete in a mixer, a bucket or on a piece of plywood with a square head shovel. This depends on the amount of concrete you need to mix. With all methods A thoroughly mixed, well proportioned cement mix is the secret to easily workable concrete. If you are a beginner you should probably mix the concrete much longer than you would otherwise think- and it can be hard work. The best concrete mix in an entire day of pouring concrete is the one that spins in the mixer throughout a long lunch break!

Mix all dry ingredients thoroughly before getting ready to add water. You will add water in SMALL quantities mixing thoroughly between adding more. You will find that the small amounts of water that you add will get immediately absorbed by the overly dry mix and you will feel compelled to add a big splash of water. DO NOT DO THIS!

The concrete will readily absorb water to a certain point of saturation, after which seemingly a thimbleful more will reduce your fine sculpting concrete to a watery mess. Concrete that has been over watered is completely compromised in terms of strength. You may be able to add ingredients or wait a while to get some sort of useable substance but this seriously weakens the end result in an undetectable fashion to the naked eye.

Have patience with adding water and you can quickly find yourself becoming more familiar with the total amount needed on any given day. If you take the time to measure how much water you need in a mix, the next time you make it you can immediately use half the anticipated amount of water required, and add the second half very slowly to ensure that you do not over water.

Making perfect concrete mixes takes patience and practice

What you are going for with this mix is a relatively firm (not too watery) end result. The concrete should be able to be formed into a ball, but still squished between your fingers without breaking off into clumps. Instead it should almost ooze through your fingers. If you dropped a fist sized ball of concrete onto the ground from the height of your knees you should end up with an almost flat circle of concrete, but not totally flat. Pictures of the desired consistency are included in the sculpting section.

Try taking your point trowel and smoothing out the concrete like spreading icing on a cake. You should be able to get a smooth glossy-like finish by working it back and forth gently. If the concrete just spreads out to nothingness under the gentle weight of your trowel you have too much water. If the concrete tends to break apart instead of spreading smoothly you likely need just a touch more water. A little goes a LONG way at this point.

Once the concrete is mixed - pay attention to the ticking clock

You will have a few hours in most cases to work the concrete into its desired shape before it cures too much to be worked further. Direct sunlight and hot dry weather can considerably increase the curing rate of concrete so it is always better to err on the side of caution with concrete drying times as you certainly do not want a batch of concrete drying in the mixer before you can get to it. This goes for tools as well. Always keep your tools clean or you will quickly find all of your tools rendered useless by dried concrete.

You can work the concrete for a few hours, misting with water if it looks like it is drying too fast (cracking in direct sunlight). After the initial curing begins and the concrete begins to stiffen you should stop working the concrete as further disturbing will weaken the strength of the final product.

Be prepared in case you can not finish your project in a single session

If you find that you are not able to complete the project in one shot, be sure to leave your concrete work finished in an inconspicuous spot. You will always be able to see the joint between where new concrete was added to cured concrete and in most cases this will cause a weak link in the overall structure called a cold joint.

If you need to add new concrete to old concrete you must complete an additional step to ensure that the two sides bond together. You need to make a watery mix of cement, water and concrete adhesive called slurry.

Making slurry for bonding old concrete to new concrete

Prepare your new (regular) mix of concrete, cover and leave in a cool shaded place. Now you are going to make another very small mix, just enough to cover the joint where new concrete and old concrete will overlap.

Mix only water and cement powder until you have something resembling soft butter. Then add a generous dollop of glue to the mix and mix further. This soft butter looking mixture (slurry) must be applied along the entire joint where you wish to add new concrete while the slurry is still wet.

Right before you apply the slurry mix you must spray down the existing concrete piece with water so that it is thoroughly wet.

NOTE- This slurry mix dries FAST. On a hot day the slurry can cure in a matter of minutes so do not waste any time in applying the slurry to the cold joint and getting your fresh waiting concrete mix spread over top.

There are some products as well that can be purchased that will perform the job of this slurry mix. Generally these mixes are designed to set fast for joining surfaces and fixing active leaks. There are concrete mix additives that can cure in 30 seconds or even underwater to patch a leak. Many times dealing with these products you will find yourself distracted for a moment only to find your trowel firmly embedded in the solidified bucket of mixed concrete moments later. The home made slurry mix described above is much more forgiving than these commercial products and produces reliable results just the same.

Concrete curing times

Concrete takes almost a full month to reach maximum strength. All too often with beginners the anticipation gets the better of you and you end up destroying or damaging your creation by moving or working the concrete too soon after sculpting. I recommend waiting a minimum of 3 full days to begin working the concrete and a full 14 days before attempting to lift or move. Be sure to keep the concrete moist with water at least 2-3 times per day for the initial 3 days.

Now that you have a better understanding of how to make concrete that is great for sculpting artificial rocks, we can take a look at how you are going to sculpt it to look exactly like real stone.

How Juicing helped save my Life

I want to get to one very very important point that I want to stress to all those looking to attain a healthy life and keep it.

It's all about nutrition and blockages within the human body.

It's that simple. I do not want to complicate it by giving you a thousand reasons people get sick.

Yes I am a huge fan of Dr. Norman Walker's because first he lived to be 99 years of age and second he cured thousands of people of many different infirmities including myself of a failed liver, kidneys and pancreas.

As I stated before Dr. Walker believed only 15% of all diseases were hereditary, or obtained through a virus from another person, while 85% were due to the chemicals in the air we breathe, chemicals in the food we eat or a blockage in the human body through one of the glands or organs not working properly.

Upon entering my journey back to health I started to read Dr. Walkers books. Now first I must clarify something that is also of vital importance here, Dr. Walker was not just a doctor he was also a Naturopath.

He believed in first trying naturally to heal the human body before giving it drugs or cutting out an organ. He believed that God has given us our organs for a purpose so to try and save them if possible at all costs.

He actually is the one who first invented the juice machine as we know it. Back then when he invented it, it was a press type machine that squeezed all the juice out of the carrots. He was a lover of nature and wondered why certain animals never got sick and others did.

He theorized that the ones who did, normally died of starvation or a lack of nutrition while the healthy ones ate lots of fruit and or vegetables, hence the invention of the juice machine of today and why making your own juice is vital to obtaining a healthy body.

Making your own juice gives your body the vitamins, nutrients, enzymes, bioflavinoids and antioxidents the body needs to keep it functioning to it's utmost potential.

A lack of nutrition in the human body leads to one or more glands not working efficiently within the human body hence the domino effect of one bad thing causing another all due to lack of nutrition or a blockage.

Now I want to talk a little about juicing since it was one of the things that saved my life.

When you juice fruits or vegetables and I mean make your own juice with them, you are extracting the life of the plant or fruit from the pulp and fiber of it.

Yes your body needs fiber but you can get that through whole grain and whole wheat breads and cereals. For example when I make carrot juice, it takes 5 or 6 large carrots to make one glass of carrot juice. Now since carrots are very bland tasting I add an apple to give it the sweetness to appeal to my tastebuds. I could not eat 6 carrots at one time yet to get the proper nutrition my body needs it is easy to juice them. Carrots are one of the only vegetables that have Vitamins A, B, C, D, E, K and Betacarrotine. I have just fed many glands and organs of my body with a large amount of vitamins and enzymes all with one drink. Are you starting to get the picture yet.

Juicing is one of the many things you have to start doing on a daily basis if you want to achieve any type of health at all and keep it.

There is a verse in the old testament in Leviticus that says the life of the flesh is in the blood. As our life is dependant on our blood for survival and our life is held in it's balance so that life of the flesh is in the juice of the plants in fruits and vegetables.

One more important factor to remember is when you juice fruits and vegetables not only are you putting Vitamins into your bodies you are putting live enzymes through which our bodies heal themselves of sickness and disease.

Remember " Nutrients and Live Enzymes are the cataclyst to the rejuvenation of damaged cells within the human body ".

Ambit Energy Review-Real Residual Income Opportunity or Fraudulent Scam

Discover The How Ambit Energy Home Based Business Opportunity Will Make You a “Residual Millionaire” and Create “Generational Wealth”!

That’s quite a statement for any company to make these days. But, it is exactly what Ambit Energy claims can be done if you follow the blueprint and compensation plan laid out for you.

Anybody knows, in order for that to happen, first, you must have a perfect product to be able to “Battle It Out” and compete in this treacherous marketplace.

Ambit Energy professes to have the “Perfect Product” that every household needs. Yes, that’s right; it is Energy (and Natural Gas).

Independent Ambit Energy Rep Jewel Brown states, “Thanks to deregulation and that fact that large monopolies have been broken up, I finally have a chance to create real residual and generational wealth that can be passed down to my children. I can actually get paid for work I do now in the future.”

In Jewel Brown’s opinion, capitalizing and starting a business in the utility industry makes perfect sense. Energy is what makes the world go around; we live with it and never want to live without it. So why not get paid for something we already use.

Here is Brown’s brief analysis of the signup process and getting setup in the business back office.

After putting up only $399 (with no annual renewal) and $19.95 (per month) for four personal company websites, first of all, it was refreshing that the initial upfront cash for such a prestigious business is so low. Expectations are moderate, but hopes of financial success are running at an all time high.

Setting up was a cinch and took only minutes. It was truly amazing discovering all the marketing tools in the back office, which made marketing and advertising easy to start making money immediately. Everything you need is available and ready to print in your back office. You also will receive a physical box of professional marketing goodies delivered directly to your door that are fantastic.

Here is an expert opinion of the compensation plan.

Simplicity is the name of Ambit’s game and to achieve maximum success it is best to start as a Marketing Consultant. As an Ambit Marketing Consultant, you can achieve fast quick start bonuses by immediately bringing in a small gathering of customers.

You may become a rep anywhere in the United States, but currently may only sign up as a customer in Texas and New York. Illinois is actually in its pre-launch phase and will be fully ready to activate in February of 2008, additional states will follow.

So, in order to achieve your first bonus (and this is subject to change) you must gather four customer points preferably in the first 24-48 hours.

At this point, you have already signed up as a rep and you already have your four websites which count for 2 customer points.

Next, this is really easy especially if you live in Texas or New York because you become you first customer for 1 customer point. It is ok if you don’t live in either state because now you just have to sign up someone who lives in those states.

Vitamins For Health

The word 'vitamin' has its root in 'vitamine' that means vital amine. Vitamins are powerful organic compounds found mainly in the food that we eat. Vitamins are essential for all human beings because they help cells and tissues to perform basic functions. Basically, vitamins are required for the growth of the body.

There are two types of vitamins- the water soluble vitamins and the fat soluble vitamins. Fat soluble vitamins are also called hormones. All the commonly known vitamins are water soluble vitamins, of which vitamin C or ascorbic acid is the most common. Earlier it was believed that all these vitamins belong to one group called B complex as they were all found in the same source. Later they were categorized as different vitamins.

Vitamin A, B1, B3, B5, B9, D, E, H, K, P, Choline and Inositol are some of the other vitamins. Few of these vitamins are known by their biological names, like vitamin B1 is known as thiamine and vitamin H, Biotin.

Vitamins form an essential component of the balanced diet that we eat. People with chronic illnesses are advised to take vitamin supplements by their doctors. Pregnant women and people suffering from bowel disorders need to watch out their vitamin intake. Bowel disorder retards the absorption of fat soluble vitamin. Folic acid is prescribed for a person suffering from thalassaemia. Patients with pernicious anemia have to be given injections of vitamin B12 because of its acute deficiency in their body.

We need small amounts of these vitamins on regular basis to help the body function smoothly and remain healthy. These vitamins help the organs to carry out their individual functions. In the absence of these vitamins, our body falls sick and suffers from vitamin deficiency diseases. There are enough vitamins present in our foods but if we don't eat a balanced diet the external supplements will do the needful.

Vitamins are useful and mandatory for the body, but excess of everything is bad. Even vitamins taken in excess can cause severe damage to the body. For instance, the body needs only 400 to 800 units of vitamin D in a day. If this amount is exceeded, too much calcium gets absorbed by the bloodstream, which can damage the kidneys. Moreover, supplements can never replace the healthy diets, so it's better to take vitamin-rich diet than take supplements.

Last word of caution: Do not take vitamins by gathering information from here and there. Consult your doctor. Remember, little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

The Statistics for Crohns Disease Patients, Treatment Costs & Appropriateness

According to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), a division of the US Department of health and Human Services that accumulates and publishes the statistics for Crohns disease and other health problems, one in 500 people suffer from Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), the group of diseases that includes Crohns syndrome and ulcerative colitis. The National Institute of Diabetes & Digestive & Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) reports similar numbers. Approximately 544,000 people suffer from IBD in the United States. There are typically three or four new cases per 100,000 people reported annually.

Crohns syndrome and ulcerative colitis are not considered life threatening diseases (less than 1000 deaths are attributed to IBD annually), but they do affect quality of life. According to a study published in August 2006, newly diagnosed pediatric patients did report an improvement in overall quality of life within the first year of diagnosis. The average age of the patients studied was between 11 and 13 years. 23% suffered from ulcerative colitis. The statistics for Crohns disease was 77% of those included in the study. Quality of life is of major concern for anyone who suffers from IBD, but the negative impact on children and teenagers can be great. There was no reported difference in quality of life between those who suffer from ulcerative colitis and those who suffer from Crohns syndrome.

While ulcerative colitis and Crohns syndrome rarely result in death, they do lead to approximately one hundred thousand hospitalizations per year in the United States. Sixty four thousand are the statistics for Crohns disease or 64% of the hospitalizations attributed to IBD. Approximately 700,000 doctor’s office visits are attributed to IBD annually.

Doctor’s visits and hospital stays cost Americans who suffer from digestive diseases an estimated $87 billion in 1992. Another $20 billion was spent on indirect medical costs, which includes disability and mortality. The statistics for Crohns disease disabilities is estimated at 119,000 Americans. Thus, of the 544,000 who suffer from Crohns syndrome 22% are unable to work.

In Europe, concerns about appropriate treatment for Crohns syndrome led to a study in which 10 gastroenterologists, 3 surgeons and 2 general practitioners from 12 different countries evaluated their colleagues’ treatment of Crohns syndrome patients. The results were not good. The panel found that treatment was inappropriate 52% of the time. After evaluating the statistics for Crohns disease treatment, this expert panel came up with a set of guidelines for practitioners to use to help them treat patients appropriately.

The Department of Gastroenterology in London reported in February 2006 that the use of complementary and alternative medicine for the treatment of Crohns syndrome and ulcerative colitis, particularly herbal therapies, is widespread and increasing. According to the study, there is evidence that aloe may be effective for reducing inflammation and pain associated with IBD. Studies of patients treated with acupuncture were promising. Their concern is that certain herbal preparations may interact with prescription medications and if not used under doctor’s supervision may not be safe. There is also some concern over the quality of products patients receive. The statistics for Crohns disease treatment with herbal or alternative therapies relating to effectiveness or safety are unavailable, as no surveys or studies have been done at this time, but at least some doctors believe they are needed. Access to Health Care in U.S: Problems and the Bottom Line

Access encompasses both the ease and timeliness with which health services can be obtained (Office of health Care Access, 1999; Millman, 1993). Metrics of measuring access to health services include:

* Having health insurance,
* Adequate income, and
* A regular primary care provider or
* Other regular source of care (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2000).
* Utilization of certain clinical preventive services, such as, early prenatal care, mammography, and Pap tests, can also indicate better access to services.
* Rate of avoidable hospital admission

Health care models:

* Purely private enterprise: Exist in poorer countries with sub standard health care dominated by private clinics for wealthier population.
* In almost all the countries, a private system exists in addition to Government health care system (such as Medicare and Medicaid in U.S). This is sometimes referred to as Two-tier health care.
* The other major models are public insurance systems:

o Social Security Health Care model where workers and their families are insured by the State.
o Publicly funded health care model, where the residents of the country are insured by the State.
o Social Health Insurance, where the whole population or most of the population is a member of a sickness insurance company.

Models for access: access to health services can be impeded broadly by:

* Affordability: Economic barriers (no insurance, poverty),
* Availability: Supply and distribution barriers (inadequate or inappropriate services or primary care providers, geographic unavailability due to difficult infrastructure);
* Unavailability of services, lack of transportation and other infrastructure), and

Language and cultural barriers.

Discussion:
_________________________

A. Insurance coverage:
____________________

* Approximately 85% of Americans have health insurance.
* Approximately 60% obtain health insurance through their place of employment or as individuals,
* Various government agencies provide health insurance to 25% of Americans.[3].
* In 2004, 45.8 million (15.7%) Americans were without health insurance [1].
* According to 2000 U.S. census data [2], the percentage of large firms (200 employees or more) offering health benefits to its retirees fell between 1988 and 2001 (excepting a spike in 1995).
* Although most types of health insurance cover common treatment services and screening and diagnostic tests, many preventive services and interventions are not covered. For example, while most health insurers will pay to treat emphysema, lung cancer, and other tobacco-related diseases, for example, few will reimburse for smoking cessation programs or medications.

B. Economic condition:

Cost is a barrier. Cost is more likely to affect persons:

* Of Hispanic ethnicity,
* To affect unmarried persons,
* Those who did not graduate from high school, were four times more likely than college graduates to experience cost barriers to health care,
* People with income under $25,000

C. Availability:

Access barrier is intense in areas where the need is high but capacity of existing providers is insufficient.

* Hispanic is less likely than non-Hispanic respondents to have health-care coverage (76.2% versus 90.6%),
* They have one or more regular personal health-care providers (68.5% versus 84.1%), or
* They have a regular place of care (93.4% versus 96.2%).
* Hispanic has needs of medical care, but can not obtain it (6.5% versus 5.0%).
* Hispanics also are significantly less likely to be screened for blood cholesterol and for breast, cervical, and colorectal cancers and to receive a influenza / pneumococcal vaccination.

D. Language factor:

Language can be an obstacle to health care access for:

* People who do not speak English and
* For the deaf and hearing impaired.

According to the 1990 U.S. Census, about nine percent of Connecticut’s population was foreign born and 15% of children and older spoke a language other than English at home. Of this group, 39% did not speak English “very well”. . According to U.S. Census Bureau, 2001, 6 percent of population is hard of hearing, and 25,500 residents are considered profoundly deaf (Connecticut Commission on the Deaf and Hearing Impaired, 2001).

The ability of Connecticut’s health care providers to communicate with non-English speaking people and is very limited. In 2001, 35 percent of total physicians and surgeons practicing medicine in Connecticut indicated that a language other than English was spoken at their practice location (Connecticut Department of Public Health, Bureau of Regulatory Services, 2001). Spanish was the most frequently spoken language.

E. Cultural factor:

Cultural differences between Hispanics and other minorities and health care providers affect health-related behaviors in certain minority groups:

* lack of knowledge about Western medicine,
* fear of public institutions (based on experiences with discrimination),
* modesty about their bodies, and
* The belief in minority women that their own needs are secondary to those of their husbands and children (True and Guillermo, 1996).
* Hispanics have less knowledge about cancer. Cancer is increasing among Hispanics [4], and cancer screening, an essential component of early detection and treatment.
* Many non-Western women do not go directly to a physician when they are ill. Instead, they first attempt to treat themselves, and if that fails, they follow the recommendations of friends, family, and in some cases, alternative or folk healers (Bayne-Smith, 1996).
* Many health problems of minority women thus go unreported and unrecognized, in part because the women do not communicate the problems, but also because providers cannot relate to the women’s cultural norms (Bayne-Smith, 1996).
* Lesbians are less likely than heterosexual women to seek health care and more likely to encounter barriers in access to care and preventive services. For example, many women who have sex only with women believe they do not need Pap tests, and confusion even exists in clinical practices about whether lesbians should be offered cervical smears routinely (Bailey et al., 2000).

? Do Medicare and Medicaid contribute to barriers to access so far we think about the delinquencies in reimbursement?
? Does it anyway refer to the question of availability of health care providers?

The U.S Health care ranking is very poor in relation to other industrialized nations in health care despite having

* the best trained health care providers and
* the best medical infrastructure

The ranking are as bellow:

* 23rd in infant mortality,
* 20th in life expectancy for women and 21st for men
* 67th in immunization, right behind Botswan
* Rank below Canada and a wide variety of industrialized nations on outcome studies on a variety of diseases, such as coronary artery disease, and renal failure.

The ranking is poor because, the access barrier is intense in U.S. Access to Health care. Difficulty in accessing to health care to 30% Americans is based on the ability to pay (disparity is directly related to income and race) [5].

Managed care organizations spend 20 % of their premium behind administration while it is only 3% in Medicare. Moreover, Managed care covers 60% of the population while Medicare and Medicaid cover 25%. About 17% of U.S population is uninsured of which, two-third has trouble accessing/paying for health care. As Medicaid covers mainly uninsured population, therefore, we may presume that high administrative cost of care providers and quickly decreasing reimbursement rate in Medicaid is a major cause of access barrier to minorities and disadvantaged so long we bark on ‘availability’ of care.

The bottom line:

Possible options to remove access barrier

* Reducing fundamental socio-economic inequities (almost absent in U.S),
* Expanding insurance coverage,
* Expanding access to Public health (preventive) services that reduce risk factors to chronic diseases and injuries.
* Prompt and effective primary care in a doctor’s office or other outpatient setting, followed by proper management can reduce the need for hospitalization for many medical conditions, such as asthma, dehydration, urinary tract infections, and perforated or bleeding ulcers (Foland, 2000; Office of Health Care Access, 2000). These conditions are referred to as “ambulatory care sensitive” hospital admissions.
* When early care is delayed or foregone, the result is often “avoidable” or “preventable” hospitalizations which can indicate:
o problems with access to primary health care services or
o Inadequate outpatient management and follow-up, because Three out of four “avoidable” hospital admissions occur through emergency rooms (Foland, 2000).
* Health Literacy and removing cultural barrier by social services and public health programs: Many patients lack the reading and comprehension skills helpful for maintaining a healthy lifestyle and to function in the U.S. health care system. These deficits result not only from poverty and low educational attainment, but also from differences in language and culture. Because of the inability of patients to read and understand health-related information:
o infants are being born with birth defects,
o diseases are being diagnosed at advanced stages, and
o Medications are being taken improperly.
* Removing cultural barriers to lifestyle and medication that have proven effective for controlling weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar should help reduce the large inequities in chronic disease.
* Universal health care (single or multi payer).

Holistic Medicine and Womens Health: Naturopathic Therapies Used to Treat PMS

PMS and PMDD Affect the health of Many Women

PMS or Premenstrual Syndrome and its severe cousin, PMDD, also called Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, affect many menstruating women every month. No one knows for sure how many women have PMS, but I’m willing to bet everyone reading this has been affected personally; either by your own experience, or that of a friend, spouse, or coworker.

Women’s health Question #1: What is PMS?

There are over 200 symptoms associated with PMS, ranging from physical symptoms to out-of-control mood swings. The most common symptoms are bloating, headaches, food cravings (CHOCOLATE!), uterine cramps, headaches, breast tenderness, mood swings, irritability, and depression. To be considered PMS, these symptoms get worse the week or two before a woman’s period, and improve soon after menstruation begins.

Alternative Medicine and Holistic Therapy Can Help You Change the Way Your Feel!

Did you know if you suffer form severe PMS you don’t have to feel so badly? What so many women and their loved ones don’t realize is that PMS is not something to just suffer through, month after month. I know this from personal experience; I used to have horrible PMS, and I should probably take this moment to formally apologize to all who have had to deal with me in the past! I would be grumpy, then suddenly burst into tears (for no reason, of course), followed by lethargy and physical discomfort and finally intense irritability. I thought this was just the way life was, and that there was nothing that I could do but wait for menopause to release me from this monthly drama. But after applying some basic naturopathic and holistic health care principles, I now rarely experience PMS symptoms, and if I do, they are mild and not distressing.

Women’s Health Questions #2: What Causes PMS?

PMS is often a complex interplay of several factors that are unique for every woman. My answer to the question, “What causes PMS?” is, “It depends.” As a naturopathic doctor with a specialty in women’s health, I see many women on a daily basis with this condition, and I can say with confidence that every woman has a unique story, with individualized obstacles and holistic therapies that work best to restore balance and sanity to her world.

When I take an in-depth look at my patients, the most common culprits behind PMS include a poor or imbalanced diet, lifestyle factors (including smoking, stress, and lack of exercise), liver stagnation, less-than-ideal digestion, and hormonal imbalance. Rarely are all of the above present in every patient, and each patient may have a unique presentation of how these obstacles can be mediated.

The Importance of Nutrition, Body Detoxification and Holistic Medicine: Tips to Support Women’s Health

A few strategies that can help reduce the symptoms of PMS for many women include:

Tip 1. Exercise to raise your endorphin levels (it will help the mental and physical symptoms!)

Tip 2. Stress management and a healthy mental outlook

Tip 3. Take care of yourself! Get enough rest, learn to relax (yoga, meditation, etc.)

Tip 4. Eat MORE: Complex carbohydrates (vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, nuts, seeds), Fiber (vegetables, ground flax seed) and Soy products (tofu, soy milk)

Tip 5. Eat LESS: Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white bread), Saturated fats (especially red meat and dairy products), Salt (especially if your problems are bloating and breast tenderness) and Caffeine (coffee, soda)

Tip 6. Seek help from a professional. Many of my PMS patients have come to me because they felt overwhelmed and are grateful to have help sorting out all the options. It is essential to develop an individualized, holistic health plan. Individualized therapies such as homeopathy and herbal medicine can work wonders to restore balance and sanity in women with PMS.

Body Building As You Age

As you mature in your years and continue to train you will want to be mindful of some of the following issues. How often you train, how many sets, repetitions you perform for a given exercise and most important the kind of diet you follow. Another important question is: Should you use supplements'

As I age I have resorted to training less. Call it the curse of old age but I've noticed that I develop more soreness, and take longer to recover from workouts. I use this as a gauge to determine how often I should train. Sometimes I have to rest up to six days between training sessions! One interesting thing I've observed is when I train with clients, the sore feeling disappears shortly after starting the work out.

A few hours later soreness erupts, increasing during the night and presents itself full blow the following morning, and depending of the severity of the workout, lasts for as long as 5 or 6 days. Sometimes I'm sore going into a workout but it fades as the workout ensues. It's best to let this soreness resolve itself and heal itself adequately, this is how growth occurs, time must be allowed for recuperation and healing. With this in mind I don't rush from one workout to the next, unless I have to.

When you rush to go back to the gym you will likely experience persistent soreness and could even get injured.

As a professional body builder who has spent most of his time training, I now have to contend with training a lot less. The question is, how do I fill my time' By doing creative things that do not require lots of energy.

I wrote Fabulously Fit Forever in 1992 at age fifty. I was in the best shape of my life since my competition days but I realized that age was taking its toll on me and I could not do as much as during my competition days. Now that I'm in my mid 60's I've slowed down even more. What follows is a set of general guidelines for how often you should train at a given age.

Health Risks Of Perfume And Perfume Allergies

Although in ancient times perfume was merely the distillation of floral essences, perfume of today is created with both synthetic chemicals and nature based materials derived from either animals or botanical means.

Many individuals can suffer from health risks when using or being around others who use perfume as well as those who suffer from perfume allergies. Since the formulas used to make perfume is consider trade secrets by the manufacturers who make them, they are not required to list the ingredients of their perfumes, so they generally list them as fragrance on their perfume bottle labels.

Not knowing exactly what may be in any particular perfume leaves physicians lacking the information they need to make a determination of exactly what may be causing an allergic reaction or what may pose as a health risk to some people.

Here is a list of some ingredients that may or not be in any particular perfume:

- Benzaldehyde
- Benzyl acetate
- Benzyl alcohol
- Camphor
- Ethanol
- Ethyl acetate, which is on n EPA Hazardous Waste list
- Limonene
- Linalool
- a-Pinene
- g-Terpinen
- a-Terpineol

Some of these chemicals can make people ill, as they may suffer from these symptoms or illnesses that may be irritated by using or being in close contact with someone wearing perfume products.

- Rashes
- Hives
- Dermatitis
- Eczema
- Sinusitis
- Asthma
- Sever headaches
- Nausea
- Central Nervous System disorders
- Fatigue
- Drowsiness
- Impaired vision
- Trouble concentrating
- Irritation of the eyes or upper respiratory tract
- Confusion
- Convulsions
- Uncontrollable coughing or sneezing
- any other numerous reactions depending upon the person and the chemical that is irritating them

Keep in mind when wearing any perfume product, especially a designer perfume , that it may not necessarily the scent that may be irritating an allergy sufferer, rather, it is a chemical of the perfume offsetting an allergic reaction or even a health risk. Most of the time you do not even realize that someone may be allergic to perfume until they suffer a bout with their allergies while being around you.

Since perfumes today are created by using different types of, chemicals they can in turn create allergic reactions and can sometimes make worse existing conditions. When using a new or different perfume you should try a perfume sample, to make sure you are not allergic to it.

Anytime you show signs of an allergic reaction or a health risk of perfume, you should immediately stop using it, while becoming aware of its ingredients. If an allergic reaction to perfume becomes sever, you should also consult with your physician to try to find out what may be an allergy trigger or allergen for you. However, if you find you are not allergic to perfume and it poses no health risk to you and those around you, you will more than likely be able to use that particular perfume product.
